Together
A song
Dear friends,
It’s been a while since I posted a song. I don’t write songs very often, but every once in a while words seem to demand a melody. It’s something that’s a vulnerable share for me as I’m not a very confident singer, but I hope the love shines through.
This one was inspired in part by the latest Opol poetry reading, where we literally were sitting with hands on our hearts while listening to the brave voices from Palestine, as well as many other beautiful poet souls. It was also inspired by a discussion with my dear friend Deborah Gregory the day after. So thank you Deborah, thank you Venessa Tai Yeh and Poetry Outdoors, and all those who shared voices and words and allowed us to witness, be present and both grieve and heal.
Together
Do you hear us march,
do you hear us march,
to the rhythm of our hearts?
Do you hear the bombs,
do you see the guns,
do you feel them tear us apart?
But we stand together
in love and poetry,
We stand together
hands on heart in unity.
Do you see lies,
read between the lines,
do you dare to open your eyes?
Do you feel the greed,
can you even breathe,
what're you willing to sacrifice?
And we stand together
in love and poetry,
We stand together
hands on heart in unity.
Tell me,
Do you love this world?
Tell me,
Could you love this world?
Tell me,
Did you love this world?
And will you do so again?
'Cause we stand together
in love and poetry,
We stand together
hands on heart in harmony.
Hands on heart in harmony.

Thank you for this vulnerability and for sharing it with all of us. I have been humming it in my head all afternoon.
Beautiful, thank you for sharing this
